Tigress in the house

What happens when a tigress comes calling at midnight, trying to escape the floodwaters? If it’s Kaziranga, the tigress stays in the house overnight and the owners stay calm until expert help arrives.

In a 28 hour operation, a sub-adult tigress of nearly two years of age that was stranded since yesterday at Baghmari village around adjacent to the Western boundary of Kaziranga National Park was successfully captured by chemical immobilization by the IFAW-WTI team.

Floods are an annual phenomenon necessary for the good health of the Kaziranga ecosystem but the displacement and distress caused to humans and animals alike calls for extensive preparations.

Fortunately, the local communities are sensitized to the cause of animal welfare and it is great to see that even incidents like this tiger in the house do not incite panic, but bring out the highest tenets of humanity, tolerance, and compassion of the people.
