International Tiger Day Event Held at Udanti-Sitanadi Tiger Reserve
Mainpur, Chhattisgarh, August 1, 2016: Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) and the Chhattisgarh Forest Department organised an event to mark International Tiger Day in Mainpur, Udanti-Sitanadi Tiger Reserve on July 29. The programme was inaugurated by the Tiger Reserve’s Field Director Mr OP Yadav and Deputy Director Mr Vivekanand Reddy. WTI’s Director (Central India) Dr RP Mishra delivered a presentation on the tiger and its conservation imperatives. About 150 frontline forest staff and Assistant Directors from the forest department, and field trackers from WTI’s Central India Wild Buffalo Conservation Project attended the programme.
WTI’s Central India Wild Buffalo Conservation Project aims to stabilise the critically endangered wild buffalo population in Udanti and Sitanadi Wildlife Sanctuaries by implementing a number of ex situ and in situ interventions. The project is being implemented in partnership with the Chattisgarh Forest Department and with support from Oracle.
