Project Description
Recent surge in human wildlife conflict cases in Odisha, an eastern state of India led State Forest Department of Odisha to collaborate with WTI for capacity building of their officials to develop a holistic understanding of human-wildlife conflicts, approaches to manage wildlife and impart critical knowledge on various aspects of species-specific conflict management as part of Odisha HWC mitigation training.
To meet the purpose, in 2021, WTI began with a series of capacity-building training workshops in human-wildlife conflict management covering all eight Forest Circles of Odisha.
During the year 2022-23, imparted basic level training in Odisha HWC mitigation to 168 forest department staff across eight forest circles of Odisha. The trainees were mostly at forest guard and forester level. In the coming years, there is plans to provide advanced and refresher training to manage better negative human-wildlife interactions in Odisha.
